How To Keep Your Things Safe In a Self-Storage Unit
When you put your things away in a self-storage facility for a month or two or for a few years, you want to know that when you take them out again that they will not be damaged or ruined. There is always going to be the chance that something unexpected will happen but here are a few tips and tricks that will hopefully reduce the likelihood that anything bad will happen to the things in your self-storage unit.
- Find the right self-storage facility; this is probably one of the most important factors in making sure that your things stay intake in your self-storage unit. You want to find a self-storage facility that is clean and looks like they take care of the place like storage units West Palm Beach.
- When looking for a self-storage facility, also make sure that they have at least some sort of security. Most places have video cameras and some sort of passcode only entrance system, if you want some more advanced security you can find self-storage facilities that have someone on guard all of the time.
- Find a self-storage facility that is free of vermin. This can be a bit difficult since you can’t always know but if you see any sort of evidence of vermin or pests get out of there and find a different self-storage facility. Mice will chew through almost anything and damage anything that they can get to.
- Use shelves in your self-storage unit. Shelves are not only great for organization but they also make sure that boxes towards the bottom of the stack do not get damaged by the weight on top of them as well as make sure that they are off the ground and less susceptible to pests or water damage.
- Check in with your things every so often. While many problems there isn’t much you can do after the damage has been done if you at least go around your self-storage unit every once and awhile you might be able to catch a problem before it happens. This does not mean that you have to go and check on your things every week but if it has been awhile since you last went to your self-storage unit and it is not terribly inconvenient to get to, swing by one day and just make sure that everything is still ok.
As you have seen from the list, many of the factors on how to keep your things safe in the self-storage facility are dependent on the self-storage facility that you choose. So before you sign a contract with any self-storage facility, make sure that you do your research and find a self-storage facility that is going to meet all of your needs and keep you happy for however long you decide to use the self-storage facility. After all, you are not going to want to switch self-storage facilities once you have moved in to make the right decision the first time around.

I really like your tip about using shelves in your storage unit to help make sure that the boxes on the bottom don’t get damaged. I think that would be a really great idea to keep boxes safe. I will have to look for shelves after I find a good storage unit.
